In this video, the non-striker’s end batsman starts running very fast even before the ball is released from the bowler’s hand. He runs so fast that he has already crossed half the pitch before the ball is bowled. Seeing the batsman running so fast, the bowler stops and smiles again without bowling the ball and goes to his run-up position.
The commentators were laughing so hard at the sight of the bowler bowling a Mankading that they couldn’t stop. However, the best part was that even though he was bowling it, he didn’t dismiss the batsman and let him stay in the game.
The Marylebone Cricket Club has recently suggested that Mankading should no longer be considered an official run out. This means that the batsman who gets out under it will not be called run out and instead, will be considered to have been dismissed. This amendment of cricket will come into effect from October 1st.
