Thirty-one years ago, 1990 to be precise, half a million Kashmiri Hindus were ethnically cleansed from the Kashmir valley by marauding Islamic gangs. Brutal murders and rapes followed. Even a High Court judge in Srinagar was shot dead in broad daylight. As the then Chief Minister of Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, completely abdicated his responsibility, perhaps one should say in collusion with the gangs, 500,000 Kashmiri Hindus had no choice but to leave. or stay and die.
Many died in squalid camps and most continued their lives with pitiful support from the Indian government, taking their lives and hoping to one day return to their homes – the homes where their ancestors survived six previous genocides.
Even after 31 years, even after the removal of the laws that greatly contributed to this genocide, India has no solution to bring them back because it has lacked the courage to face the reality of Islamic fundamentalism and the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure. Worse still, their story is almost never discussed openly in India, even after 31 years, while any minor incident, especially one that paints Hindus in a bad light, turns into a high-decibel campaign.
Filmmakers Vivek Agnihotri and his wife, Pallavi Joshi, decided to change that. They did what India hasn’t done for 31 years: show the true face of the Kashmir Hindu genocide in their film, The Kashmir Files, which is now showing in many cities across the United States. The breadth and breadth of his coverage of the Kashmir Hindu Genocide in the film, while being gentle on the audience’s ability to take in, is a feat in itself.

More importantly, it is the story of Hindu India, perhaps the most brutalized societies in the world by fundamentalist Abrahamic religions where, by some estimates, 80 million people perished; it is the story of a small community that clung to its culture despite enormous difficulties; it is the story of the source of the deepest Hindu thought which originated in Kashmir and which is still a beacon for all mankind; it is the story of spineless Indian governments and their bleaching attitudes because they lack the courage to face reality.
This is the story of what happens if a society is not prepared to stand together and fight the brutal savages, trying to appease and negotiate with those who have nothing on their minds but your destruction. It is the story of Hindu leaders who learned little lesson – from Prithviraj Chauhan freeing Mohammed Ghori and then being killed at the first opportunity, to current BJP leadership like Ram Madhav who, during his recent program in New Jersey, boasted that the Center could attract millions of visitors to Kashmir when few Hindus could live without fear.
It is the story of our political leaders competing with each other to appease and appease minorities. It is also the story of sacrificing our soldiers in the process of eliminating terrorists, but without the courage (on the part of the administration, justice, etc.) to attack the root of terrorism. It is a continuing saga of death and destruction of the most advanced civilization that is on its last thread of hope.
