New Delhi: Crime cases in 2020 increased by 28% compared to 2019. According to NCRB data, a total of 66,01,285 crime cases were registered in 2020. It registered 42,54,356 cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 23,469,229 files under SLL. While a total of 51.56,158 cases were recorded in 2019. The country experienced a national lockdown due to the COVID pandemic from March 25, 2020, to May 31, 2020.

UP has the highest number of murder cases
According to NCRB data, India reported an average of 80 murders per day in 2020, and a total of 29,193 people were killed. Uttar Pradesh tops the list of states in this regard. 3,779 murder cases have been registered in UP. This was followed by 3,150 murder cases in Bihar, 2,163 in Maharashtra, 2,101 in Madhya Pradesh, and 1,948 in West Bengal. Delhi recorded 472 murder cases in 2020.

Of those killed last year, 38.5% were in the 30-45 age group, while 35.9% were in the 18-30 age group. Statistics show that 16.4% of those murdered were in the 45-60 age group and 4% were over 60, while the rest were minors.

Kidnapping cases decreased, UP has the highest number of cases
Kidnapping cases decreased by 19% in 2020 compared to 2019. In 2020, 84,805 kidnapping cases were recorded while 1,05036 cases were recorded in 2019. Rajasthan has the highest number of rape cases
Around 77 cases of rape were recorded daily across the country in 2020. A total of 28,046 cases of rape were recorded last year. The largest number of these cases were recorded in Rajasthan and then in Uttar Pradesh. The NCRB said a total of 371,503 cases of crimes against women were recorded across the country last year, the number was 4,05,326 in 2019 and 3,78,236 in 2018.
