KL Rahul & Co Fined 40% Match Fee in Ind vs SA 3rd ODI

Ind vs SA 3rd ODI: After being beaten 0-3 in the ODI series against South Africa, the problems for the Indian cricket team don’t seem to end there. Now, under the management of KL Rahul, the Indian team has been fined 40% of their match fee for maintaining a slow overrun against South Africa in the third ODI.

ICC Elite Panel match referee Andy Pycroft imposed the penalty after KL Rahul & Co have ruled two overs short from target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

Earlier in this ODI series, the hosts were fined a 20% match fee for maintaining a slow passing rate against India in the second ODI at Parl.

In Ind vs SA 3rd ODI, India failed to chase down a modest tally of 287 set by South Africa in Cape Town on Sunday. Although three players (Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepak Chahar) on the visiting side reached half a century, none could anchor the innings to finish. India was knocked out for 283 in 49.2 overs

India lost the ODI three-game series 0-3, with Proteas recording the ODI shutout and a 2-1 Test series victory in the tour.

Meanwhile, after a successful tour for the hosts, South African cricket manager and former captain, Graeme Smith has thanked India and BCCI for continuing the tour with fear of Omicron as an underlying factor.

“Many thanks to BCCI, Jay Shah, S Ganguly, and the Indian players and management for the faith you have shown in SA cricket’s ability to deliver a safe and successful tour. Your commitment at an uncertain time has set an example that many can follow,” Smith said in his tweet.

Cricket South Africa has been reeling from financial issues for a while now and the Covid-19 pandemic aggravated their problems. Earlier, England and Australia cancelled their tours of the country after a spike in positive covid-19 cases.
