ICAI CA Exam 2021: The Supreme Court of India will hear a plea tomorrow, June 28, asking its leadership for an opt-out option, an additional attempt, and increased examination centers for the next session of the ICAI CA exams. The plea also asked the Supreme Court to request the postponement of the review if compliance with Covid protocols cannot be guaranteed.
The petition has been filed to challenge the June 5 notification issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), regarding the conduct of CA exams.
Advocacy prayed for an additional attempt for middle and final year students appearing under the old curriculum. She called for an increase in the number of examination centers. There should be “at least one examination center in every district in India” and the examination should be carried out on a phased basis, she said.
The plea says there should be examination centers on hold for centers that are likely to enter the containment zone during the examination.
If authorities cannot guarantee compliance with COVID-19 guidelines, examinations scheduled for July 6 should be postponed to a later period when the COVID-19 situation normalizes, she added.
While the basic CA exams will start on July 24 and the CA Inter exams will take place from July 6 to 20, the CA Final exams are scheduled from July 5 to 19.
Earlier this month, the institute announced an option to withdraw from upcoming exams for students who test positive for Covid or have a member of the Covid family who is positive.
She also said that “the last attempt of the old course for the final and intermediate exams (IPC) will be extended until the November 2021 exams only for those students who are allowed to withdraw from the May / July 2021 exams.
Meanwhile, a group of 6,000 chartered accountancy (CA) students has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to request the postponement of upcoming CA exams, given the COVID-19 situation in the country.
