CoWIN unable to stop recovered people from taking slots

CoWIN- The technical limitations on the CoWIN platform are proving to be a barrier to implementing a three-month state-of-the-art law waiting period as several people in Delhi received their immunizations shortly after the Covid-19 test.
n On April 30, 26-year-old Ansh, who lives in Krishna Nagar of Delhi, was tested for Covid-19 after being diagnosed with the virus two weeks ago. She and her 56-year-old father were not vaccinated.

CoWIN- A day later, the government increased the Covid-19 vaccine for people aged 18-44. However, Ansh had to wait until May 24 for his chance. It was then that he and his father found a gun for the first time at a vaccine in New Delhi.

However, just five days ago, the Union Department of Health released new guidelines for all provinces and UTs stating that people who have recently received Covid-19 treatment should wait at least three months before taking their vaccine.

The government’s view, based on research studies and recommendations from the national team of experts, is that the recipient has enough antibodies to protect him from re-infection for at least three months. Therefore, delaying their vaccination will ensure that others who are at risk of contracting the disease are safe.
“We decided to immunize in order to protect our family. We registered on the CoWIN platform and got our vaccinations on May 24,” Ansh said.

He added that when they registered for the vaccine there was no procedure in the digital system that prevented them from taking the gun from the ground they had just recovered from in Covid-19.

“No one asked about our Covid-19 status or even stopped us at immunization centers,” he said, adding that this was despite his use of his Aadhar card during the RT-PCR test and while registering with CoWIN.

Not one case
Ansh is not the only person who recently recovered from Covid-19 but was vaccinated after May 19, the day the government announced a three-month waiting period for newly recovered people.

Thirty-three-year-old Mehul Chopra (name changed), a resident of Noida, was also vaccinated at a city vaccination center in the city.

Mehul had recovered from Covid-19 and was tested for negative on May 9. He was able to find a place to vaccinate on May 21 and received firearms without question.
