Assam announces a Grade 10 assessment formula for the 12 state board students

Education minister Ranoj Pegu made the announcement in presence of officials of Board of Secondary Education, Assam, and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, the boards responsible for conducting the exams.

The Assam government on Thursday announced an assessment formula for state board students Class 10 and 12. The tests had to be canceled during Covid-19 disease.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu made the announcement in front of officials from the Board of Higher Education, Assam (SEBA), and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), the examining boards.

“We have decided that student examinations in both classes will be based on internal examination records and previous exams available to us,” Pegu said.

For Class 12 students with practical tests, 50% of their total marks will come from the best subjects in three Class 10 subjects, 30% from Class 12 practical, 10% based on internal assessment and attendance in Class 11, and Class 12 and others 10% provided by AHSEC.

Class 12 students from arts and commerce streams (without practicals), will receive 50% of their marks in the top 3 subjects in Class 10, 40% based on the internal tests in Class 11 and Class 12, and an additional 10% to be provided by AHSEC.

Those students who are dissatisfied with their grades or assessment process may have the option to appear on the regular exams on September 15 or where the exams may be held.

There will be no announcement of the managers of the various streams at this level.

For students who appear in the Class 10 board exams, 40% of their marks will be based on their performance in Class 9, 40% based on their performance tests in Class 10, and 20% from internal school tests.

In schools where pre-board Class 10 examinations were not held, 70% marks from Class 9 will be used for assessment and another 30% will be awarded to their schools based on previous attendance records, class tests etc.

Examination of physically disabled students, who were unable to participate in the standard examinations last year for various reasons, will be conducted entirely by their schools.

The marks awarded to Grade 10 and 12 learners this year will not be taken into account if they decide to later select national government jobs, which gives the value of the marks obtained in the board exams. Such students will have to undergo a special examination of the merits of the job.
