After the Supreme Court dismissed the petition, the govt should postpone the NEET PG 2022 exam

NEET PG 2022 exam: Following the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the petition seeking to postpone the postgraduate medical entrance exam — National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG), the student group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has urged the government to take action in the students’ best interests.

This follows the Supreme Court’s decision not to intervene, leaving the decision to extend the exam date to the government.

WHAT IS THE CASE

The petitioners demanded that the exam be postponed because it clashed with the ongoing NEET PG 2021 counselling process and there was not enough time to prepare.

Doctors who passed the NEET PG 2021 but received lower rankings would have to wait until the final rounds to be admitted. However, the application period for NEET PG 2022 is now closed. If not extended further, the counselling process will conclude on May 9, and the exam will begin on May 21. Candidates claimed that there is little time for preparation and that this can result in a year’s loss.

A delegation of the ABVP presented the union health minister with a memorandum outlining the students’ problems.

Nidhi Tripathi, the ABVP’s national general secretary, stated, “There is not enough time to prepare due to the conflict between the NEET PG 2021 counselling process and the date of the NEET PG 2022 examination. The Supreme Court has deferred to the government’s decision. Now is the time for the government to act in the best interests of students and extend the dates of NEET PG 2022. We also encourage students to continue studying for the exam. We are working hard to get the exam date extended.”
