Indian cricketer star Yashpal Sharma Passes Away Due To Heart Attack

Yashpal Sharma, in a memorable cricketing career that spanned over the late ’70s and ’80s, scored 1606 runs in 37 Tests with nine fifties and two remarkable centuries for the national team.

Former Indian cricketer star and 1983 World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma died of a heart attack on Tuesday. The gifted 66-year-old middle-order batsman made his India debut in 1979 against England.

Yashpal scored 1606 points in 37 tests with nine fifties and two remarkable centuries for the national team in a memorable cricket career that spanned the late 70s and 80s. He also played 42 ODIs and scored 883 points for the Indian team. For a few years, Yashpal was also a national coach.

Yashpal Sharma played his first international match on August 2, 1979, at Lord’s. He made a big impact in 1972 after scoring 260 points for schools in Punjab against schools in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two years later, he secured a place in the state squad. He was part of the Indian team for the 1979 World Cup, but he didn’t have the chance to play a single match.

At the 1983 World Cup, he played an important role in making India the world champion, scoring 89 points against the West Indies in the opener, and was named man of the match for his exploits. Yashpal Sharma was born on August 11, 1954, in Ludhiana, Punjab. The star drummer has passed away at the age of 66.
