Uttarakhand: decision permitting Char Dham yatra

Uttarakhand- high court on Monday suspended the state cabinet’s decision to allow Char Dham yatra from July 1 for residents of the three districts where the four revered Himalayan shrines are located. While Kedarnath Shrine is in Rudraprayag District, Badrinath Shrine is in Chamoli District, while Yamunotri and Gangotri Shrine is in Uttarkashi District.

The division bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma, while expressing their dissatisfaction with the affidavit filed by the state government amid fears of a third wave and the delta plus variant, said the yatra should not be allowed. The judiciary said it was not satisfied with the government’s state of preparedness, especially with regard to health facilities and the status of Covid vaccination in these three districts.

Uttarakhand- The High Court ordered the state government to broadcast live the daily prayers and ritual ceremonies held at these shrines.

The state cabinet authorized the Dham yatra tank for residents of the three districts at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Friday. The state government had to inform the High Court of its ruling on Char Dham yatra on Monday.
