India Rejects OIC ‘Unacceptable’ Remarks on J&K, Warns Against ‘Vested Interest’ Exploitation Platform

On the second anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, the OIC General Secretariat reiterated its “call to revoke” the steps taken by India.

New Delhi: India categorically rejected a statement issued by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, urging the cooperation to refrain from allowing vested interests to exploit its platform -form to comment on the internal affairs of the country.

The firm response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) came after a statement was issued by the OIC General Secretariat on the occasion of the second anniversary of the repeal of Article 370, withdrawing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We categorically reject another unacceptable reference to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir issued by the OIC General Secretariat,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, responding to questions from the media. on the OIC declaration.

“The OIC does not have the standing to act on matters relating to the territory of the Union of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. It is reiterated that the OIC General Secretariat shoulds ‘Refrain from allowing special interests to operate its commentary platform on India’s internal affairs,’ Bagchi added.

India announced on August 5, 2019, the withdrawal of the special provisions extended to Jammu and Kashmir as well as the decision to split the state into two Union territories.

In its statement, the OIC General Secretariat reiterated its “call to revoke all these measures”.

“The General Secretariat further refers to the decisions and resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the Council of OIC Foreign Ministers and reiterates its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their pursuit of the right to self-determination”, indicates the press release.

“He urges to refrain from altering the demographic makeup of the disputed territory of occupied Indian Jammu and Kashmir and to respect the basic human rights of its inhabitants,” the statement added.

The OIC General Secretariat also called on the international community to redouble efforts to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with “relevant UN Security Council resolutions”.
