Dispur: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hit back Thursday at Assam’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement on minority population control. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday urged parts of Assam’s Muslim community to adopt “decent family planning standards” to overcome social ills such as poverty and illiteracy. Sarma made the remarks at a press conference here to mark the completion of a month-long government led by him.

Speaking in the context of the recent eviction of unauthorized settlers, Sarma said those who criticize his government should instead think about “how to practice small family size”.

“We can solve many social ills in Assam if the immigrant Muslim community adopts decent family planning standards. It will be my call for them, ”he said. “To end their poverty, Muslim women must be educated, the population must be controlled. I invite them to work with us.
