Dispur: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hit back Thursday at Assam’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement on minority population control. The AIMIM chief said that although Himanta Biswa Sarma talks about population control, the reality is that Assam has already gone down to TFR (Total Fertility Rate) to 2.1 while the national TFR is 2.2. Simply put, there is no population explosion.

Owaisi added that “your government should be concerned about the biased sex ratio due to the barbaric practice of selective abortion. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday urged parts of Assam’s Muslim community to adopt “decent family planning standards” to overcome social ills such as poverty and illiteracy. Speaking in the context of the recent eviction of unauthorized settlers, Sarma said those who criticize his government should instead think about “how to practice small family size”.
