RCB Captain Faf Du Plessis shares ‘crazy’ story of playing under MS Dhoni at CSK

The RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) announced on Saturday the appointment of Faf du Plessis as their new captain ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League.

The franchise bought former South African skipper, Faf du Plessis, at the IPL mega auction earlier this year. Du Plessis comes to RCB after a long stint with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), during which he represented the franchise for 9 seasons from 2011 to 2021. He had played a key role at bat in CSK’s title-winning season l last year.

Faf played under Mahendra Singh Dhoni at CSK and the Rising Pune Supergiants – a now-defunct franchise that featured in the 2016 and 2017 seasons of the tournament after a two-year ban from Chennai.

Faf du Plessis captained South Africa on their international days and also played for the country.

Faf recalled his early days at CSK after talking in detail about playing under Dhoni. He stressed that it was a new culture for him – even in terms of captaincy – when he joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2011. The South African cricketer further added that he will bring his own style of leadership and cannot “try to be Virat”. Kohli” when it comes to leading the team.

“The crazy thing is when I started again in Chennai, I had this idea of what the captaincy was like. And multiple sclerosis was the complete opposite of what I thought it would have been like. Because my culture was South African, right? So I came to this environment and found that the captain here was completely different than I thought he should be! “

What I learned from this experience is that there are many different styles, but it’s important to have your own. Because that’s always what comes out when the pressure is on.

“I can’t try to be Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni because I’m not those players. But there are things I learned that helped me develop my leadership style and mature,” said the new RCB captain.

Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore will start their Indian Premier League campaign on March 27, 2022 against the Punjab Kings.
