Rahul Gandhi to visit Maharashtra at the invitation of Shiv Sena, likely to meet CM Thackeray at ‘Matoshree’

Sources said Rahul Gandhi may visit Maharashtra after the Monsoon Session of Parliament during which he is expected to hold talks with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

New Delhi: As the opposition unites to corner the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the 2024 elections in Lok Sabha, the Shiv Sena has invited Congress Secretary-General Rahul Gandhi to Maharashtra.

Sources close to ABP News have said Gandhi may visit Maharashtra after the monsoon session of Parliament in which he is expected to meet with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Sources added that he would also visit ‘Matoshree’, the residence of the Shiv Sena supremo.

It comes as the leader of Shiv Sena, Sanjay Raut, has met with the leader of Congress twice in the past few days and it is speculated that Gandhi was invited during these interactions to visit Maharashtra.

If Gandhi visits “Maharashtra”, it will be seen as a big bipolar shift in the country’s national politics.

A Shiv Sena executive, however, said that the grandmother and former prime minister of Congress President Indira Gandhi had visited “Matoshree” earlier, adding that it shouldn’t be seen from another perspective.

The news of Shiv Sena’s invitation to Gandhi comes at a time when the three coalition partners of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of Maharashtra disagree.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chairperson Nana Patole has talked repeatedly about standing alone in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election.

In addition, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sharad Pawar, has twice met with the main leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the past 17 days. Pawar met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 3, while he had Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on July 27. Although the reason for the two meetings has been explained differently, nothing can be predicted in politics as even the merger of the reverse sometimes takes place.

Maharashtra’s chief minister recently met Prime Minister Modi with some of his cabinet colleagues. He had also met the Prime Minister alone.

Much speculation was made then and sources in the Shiv Sena also did not rule out any possibility in the future.

But now the Shiv Sena appears to be stepping up the fight with Congress and Maharashtra politics may show and erase many possibilities in the times to come, especially ahead of the BMC elections.
