PM Modi – NE CMs meeting: Need to work together to stop the 3rd wave; Announces new package of Rs. 23,000cr

New Delhi: PM Modi interacts with chief ministers of eight northeastern states on Tuesday to discuss the Covid-19 situation amid concerns over the number of coronaviruses in the region.

He mentioned the need to speed up the vaccination program in order to fight against the third wave of flaring.

PM Modi, in his interaction with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram by video conference, reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the northeast. He said there is a need to focus on improving the infrastructure related to testing and treatment.

For which the cabinet also approved a new package of Rs 23,000 crore. This package will help each state in the northeast to strengthen their health infrastructure, he noted.

While most parts of the country have seen a steady decline in the number of Covid people, the northeast region has been of concern with the number of cases either increasing or not matching the national trend, noted the experts.
