Operation Ganga: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed previous governments for large numbers of Indian students going abroad to pursue medical studies and said his waiver was working to increase the number of medical colleges so that students can enroll in the country.

His government is working to correct past mistakes, he added.
There were 300 to 400 medical colleges before, and now there are nearly 700, Prime Minister Modi said. The number of seats they offer has now increased to 1.5 lakh from 80,000 to 90,000 previously, he said.
“My effort is for every district to have a medical school. Probably there will be more doctors trained in 10 years than in the last 70 years,” he said.
Indians are being evacuated from Ukraine under Operation Ganga
The Foreign Ministry said Thursday that more than 3,000 Indians had been brought back from Ukraine in the past 24 hours and the process was continuing. MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi said more flights are planned over the next 2-to 3 days to bring more stranded Indians back to Ukraine.
Under ‘Operation Ganga’, thousands of Indians stranded in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion were flown back to India on evacuation flights.
Of the 20,000 Indians stranded in war-torn Ukraine, more than 6,000 have been brought back to the country so far.
While Ukraine has closed its airspace due to the conflict with Russia, India is evacuating its nationals by moving them overland to the country’s Eastern European neighbors – Romania, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia – then flying them from there.
