Non-Muslim Refugees Can Apply For Indian Citizenship

Non-Muslim Refugees- New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notice inviting non-Muslims — Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and living in 13 states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Punjab India under National Law 1955 and Laws enacted under the law in 2009. The new order has nothing to do with the Citizens’ Amendment Act (CAA) which was enacted in 2019 as the Rules under this controversial act are yet to be framed by the Institute.


Non-Muslim Refugees-In exercising the power conferred on it under Section 16 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), the central government directs that the power exercised to register as an Indian citizen under Section 5, or the issuance of a certificate of accreditation under section 6 of the Citizenship Act 1955 in respect of any minority citizen in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan namely, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, live in the above-mentioned provinces and territories mentioned below…, ”the statement said.


Eligible applicants for Indian citizenship are those living in the Morbi, Rajkot, Patan and Vadodara districts of Gujarat, Durg and Balodabazar in Chhattisgarh, Jalore, Udaipur, Pali, Barmer and Sirohi in Rajasthan, Faridabad in Haryana and Jalandhar in the Punjab.


Non-Muslim Refugees- “An application for registration as an Indian citizen or for a certificate of Indian citizenship under the prescribed laws (National Laws, 2009) will be made by the applicant online,” the notice said.
The Department of Home Affairs said the verification of the application was done simultaneously by the collector or secretary (Home) of Haryana and Punjab as it may be, at the district and state level and the application and reports on it will be available simultaneously on the online site.

The collector or secretary, as the case may be, conducts an inquiry as he deems it necessary to verify the applicant’s suitability and for that purpose submits the online application to those bodies for verification and comment as may be necessary to complete the query and to be issued by the Agency from time to time. and the affected region, it said.
