Kolkata Book Fair postponed for a month due to Covid surge. Check the new dates here

Kolkata Book Fair: The Kolkata International Book Fair has been postponed for a month due to an increase in Covid-19 cases and municipal elections, and it will now start from February 28, the organizer announced on Monday.

The decision was made after consultation with the state government, Guild of Book Publishers and Sellers chairman Tridib Chatterjee told PTI.

“The fair will be held for 12 days from February 28 as the covid situation has not improved much yet and the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation election is due to be held on February 12,” Chatterjee said.

The book fair, an immensely popular event, will be held at Central Park in Bidhannagar, near Kolkata, in the North 24 Parganas district. It was previously scheduled to be held from January 31 to February 12 after failing to take off in 2021 due to the pandemic.

“We hope that the situation will be more favorable at the end of February and March,” said the president of the Guild.

The book fair has Bangladesh as the theme country this year.

All state government guidelines would be adhered to during the fair, and each booth would be about 35% smaller to keep more open floor space to avoid crowding, Chatterjee said earlier.
