JNU Violence: Education Ministry Seeks Report On Students Clash On Ram Navami

JNU Violence: Two days after students fought on the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University over the type of food given in the mess, the Union Ministry of Education on Tuesday demanded a thorough report on what caused the brawl, according to news agency ANI.

On Ram Navami, two student groups, the left-wing student union and the RSS-linked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), battled at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Kaveri Hostel, allegedly over the provision of non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess. Six students were injured as a result of the scuffle.

The Delhi Police on Monday filed a complaint against unidentified Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) students in connection with the university violence.

“We received a complaint early this morning from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF, and AISA against unknown ABVP students.” As a result, we filed a FIR under Sections -323, 341, 509, 506, and 34 of the IPC. “An additional investigation is underway to collect evidence and identify the perpetrators,” said the Delhi Police.

Later in the day, ABVP students filed complaints at the Vasant Kunj Police Station, seeking police action against unidentified students affiliated with the Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNUSU), Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), All India Students’ Association, and Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

According to the ABVP’s complaint, ‘Left’ students attempted to disturb the Ram Navami Pooja being held at the campus’s Kaveri dormitory. They also claimed that students linked with left-wing parties threw stones at them and used derogatory language about women, according to ANI.
