INDW VS ENGW: Mithali Raj’s 50s to no avail as English women beat Indian women at 8 wickets

INDW VS ENGW: Beaumont stitched an unbeaten 119-run stand with Natalie Sciver as the duo chased down the total to give their team a huge 108-run win.

Indian captain Mithali Raj’s half-century unfolded in vain as the England women’s team claimed an eight-wicket victory over India’s women’s team in the inaugural ODI at Bristol County Ground Sunday. After being asked to strike first, the Indian women’s team got off to a bad start losing the top two – Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma – in 10th place, with just 27 points on board.

Mithali Raj scored 72 runs on 108 balls which helped India post a difficult 201/8 in 50 overs, although the visitors continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Taniya Bhati dismissed England opener, Lauren Winfield, for just 16 runs in 5th, giving India hope that she will be able to defend the total.

But her opening partner Tammy Beaumont kept the scoreboard running and she partnered with Captain Knight before the latter was fired for 18.

Beaumont sewed an unbeaten 119-runs position with Natalie Sciver as the duo chased the total to give his team a huge 108-runs victory.

While Beaumont smashed 87 runs in 87 balls, Sciver hammered 74 runs in 74 runs as England women won the match in 34.5 overs.

Wih the win, England took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The 2nd match of the series will be played on Wednesday.
