India U19 WC Sqaud 2022: Delhi hitter Yash Dhull will lead a 17-member Indian squad at the Under-19 World Cup, which is set to take place in the West Indies from January 14 to February 5, BCCI said on Sunday.

India, quadruple winner, is clubbed with South Africa, Ireland and Uganda in Group B.

Dhull’s appointment was in line with expectations as he was also named captain of the upcoming Asian Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from December 23.

Dhull will have SK Rasheed of Andhra as assistant for the first Caribbean tournament.

The All-India Junior Selection Committee has selected the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup to be played in the West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022, in four host countries, “BCCI said in a press release.

The 14th edition of the tournament will see 16 teams compete for the trophy through 48 matches.

India is the most successful team to have won the title four times – 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018.

India was also a finalist in 2016 and the previous edition of the tournament was held in 2020 in New Zealand.

Dhull, a middle-order right-handed hitter, was one of the top scorers for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy earlier this year. He averaged 75.50 for his 302 points for the Delhi Districts & Cricket Association (DDCA) in the team’s five games during the tournament.

Delhi player Dhull joins the great Virat Kohli as captain of the junior team in the renowned tournament. He previously led the Delhi U-16, U-19, and India ‘A’ U-19 teams.

Rasheed has also been impressive in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, including scoring a century winner.

The format will see the top two teams from each of the four groups qualify for the Super League while the remaining teams will feature in the Plate for 23 days of competition.

India will begin their campaign against South Africa at Providence Stadium in Guyana on January 15.

They will play their remaining group matches against Ireland and Uganda on January 19 and 22 respectively.

The four host countries have been confirmed as Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Saint Kitts, and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago with 10 venues hosting matches.

The 48-game schedule begins with the West Indies taking on Australia, Sri Lanka taking on Scotland in Guyana on January 14. The group stage will take place in Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago from January 14-22.

Trinidad and Tobago will host the Plate competition from January 25 to 31, with the Super League taking place in Antigua and Barbuda from January 26.

The semi-finals will be played on February 1 and 2 at two venues: Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and Coolidge Cricket Ground.

The final will also take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
