Highest Military Honour For ‘Killer’ Squadron That Hit Karachi Harbour During 1971 India-Pakistan War

Highest Military Honour- In an effort to mark 50 years of successful Operation Trident, where the ‘Killer Squadron’ inflicted a decisive blow on Pakistan by destroying the port of Karachi during the 1971 war, Kovind will award the President’s Standard in a ceremonial parade at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, according to a Defense Ministry statement.
An official statement on Sunday read: “To mark the occasion, a special envelope, as well as a commemorative stamp will also be issued by the postal service.”
The President’s Standard is the highest form of honor bestowed by the Supreme Commander on a military unit to recognize service to the nation. The President’s standard is the same as the President’s colors, awarded to a smaller military unit.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the victory in the 1971 war and is marked nationwide as “Swarnim Vijay Varsh”. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the “Killers,” who over the past five decades have been successful in serving the nation.

Being the tip of the Indian Navy’s Sword Arm, the Missile Vessel Squadron participated in Op Parakram, Op Vijay and recently after the Pulwama attack.

The ceremony on December 8 is expected to take place in the presence of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Governor, the Chief of the Naval Staff, as well as many other civilian and military dignitaries.
