Police in Punjab suggested that the dreaded Lawrence Bishnoi gang was involved in the murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. Despite the fact that Bishnoi is currently imprisoned in Tihar, Punjab Police is investigating his involvement.
Bishnoi, 31, is the son of a wealthy agriculturist from the sleepy Dhattaranwali village near Abohar in Punjab’s Ferozepur district, and is currently imprisoned at Tihar. Shortly after the killing, Goldy Brar, a Canadian-based gangster, claimed that he and Bishnoi had planned it.
Bishnoi is facing more than a dozen charges, ranging from murder to extortion. The police believe Moose Wala’s death was caused by a gang war. But this isn’t the first time the gangster’s name has been linked to the world of entertainment. In 2018, a man claiming to be a Bishnoi associate was arrested in Bengaluru. Sampat Nehra, the man, claimed he was tasked with carrying out a hit on Salman Khan in retaliation for the blackbuck hunting case.
The police claimed that Lawrence Bishnoi is a member of the Bishnoi community, which reveres blackbucks. After the threat level was assessed, Mumbai Police increased Salman’s security. “We have increased Salman Khan’s overall security.” “Police will be stationed around his apartment to ensure that no nefarious activity is carried out by the Rajasthan gang,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Bishnoi himself had threatened to kill Salman in Jodhpur. “Hum karenge toh pata chal hi jayega. Salman Khan ko Jodhpur mein hi maarenge, pata chal jayega inko. Abhi toh maine kuch kiya hi nahi hai, bina matlab ke involve kar rahe hain (Everyone will know once we take action. We will kill Salman Khan here, in Jodhpur. I haven’t done anything yet, and they’re accusing me of crimes for no reason),” he said outside court in 2018.
The arrest of an alleged sharpshooter associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in 2020 prompted police to claim that they had uncovered a plot to assassinate Salman Khan. Rahul alias Sanga alias Baba alias Sunni was apprehended in Uttarakhand in connection with a murder investigation in Faridabad. During questioning, Rahul revealed that he travelled to Mumbai in January to conduct a reconnaissance for the murder of Salman Khan.
He went to the actor’s house in Bandra for the purpose and stayed for two days,” said DCP Rajesh Duggal (Headquarters). “He conducted this recce at the behest of Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra, another member of the gang, who had also conducted a recce to plan for the same crime before he was arrested in June 2018,” the DCP added.
