Diwali gift from Modi Govt to railway employees: 78 days of approved bonus pay

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a productivity bonus equivalent to 78 days’ salary for eligible unlisted employees of Indian Railway for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

This decision should motivate employees to work on improving the performance of Indian railways.

The personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Special Railway Protection Forces (RPSF) were, however, excluded from the productivity bonus.

About 11.56 lakh of unlisted Indian Railways employees are likely to benefit from this move.

The financial implication of paying 78 days of productivity bonus to railway employees was estimated at Rs. 1,984.73 crore.

The prescribed salary calculation limit for the payment of the productivity bonus to employees of eligible unlisted railways is Rs 7,000 per month.

The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs. 17,951 for 78 days.

Payment of the productivity bonus to eligible railway employees is made annually before the Dussehra / Puja holiday.

In the same vein, the Cabinet decision will be implemented before this year’s recess as well.

The productivity bonus amount of 78 days’ salary was paid for fiscal years 2010-11 to 2019-20.

Earlier in 2019-2020, Indian Railways granted nearly 11.58 lakhs of unlisted employees a 78-day bonus for a total of Rs 2,081.68 crore.
