Demand for NEET Postponement Rises, with Support from Maharashtra MLA

Nitin Raut, a Maharashtra MLA, has now joined the protest calling for the postponement of the national medical entrance test, echoing the demand of NEET 2022 applicants. The Nagpur-based Congress MLA urged the administration to give in to student demands and postpone the date from July 17 in a tweet.

In order to give themselves more time to prepare, NEET applicants have been requesting a postponement of the exam date by at least 40 to 60 days. Students claim that with only three months to review the complete material after the NEET-UG 2021 counselling procedure ended in March of this year.

The proximity of the NEET 2022 exam date to other entrance exams, like the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is scheduled to start on July 15, is another issue for hopefuls. Students assert that students who intend to apply to undergrad programs other than medical programs through NEET may not have enough time to concentrate on their tests.

The NEET 2022 date was previously postponed at the request of applicants to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To draw attention to the problem, they used the hashtag PMOHelpNEETUGAspirants on Twitter.

Students want that the same standard be applied to the NEET exam as well, using the case of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main that was postponed as an example. However, the National Testing Agency and the government have defied the demands, claiming that they are unable to modify the date at the last minute. The admission cards for NEET 2022 are expected to be released by the NTA soon.

This year, there were almost 18 lakh applicants for the medical entrance exam. The universal medical entrance test is scheduled to take place in 546 Indian towns and 14 locations outside of India using a revised exam format that gives students an additional 20 minutes to complete the paper. The quantity of questions, however, has not altered.
