Asia Cup Postponed To 2023; “No Practical Window” Available Says Asian Cricket Council (ACC)

Asia Cup: In a statement released by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) it announced the postponement of the tournament to 2023. Check out the full statement below.

The Asia Cup tournament scheduled for September 2021 has been postponed to 2023. The tournament was postponed due to rising Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka which was due to host the 2021 Asia Trophy program. The previous version of the Asia Trophy was held in the UAE in 2018 which was won by India.

In a statement issued by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), it announced that the tournament was postponed to 2023. “The Board has carefully considered the matter and decided that the only way forward is to postpone the event,” the statement read. The statement also said that there was no window to host the tournament due to international congestion.

“It is therefore possible that this tournament program will be in 2023 as there is already an Asian Cup in 2022. The same dates will be confirmed in due course.

“The ACC Executive Board, due to the risks and limitations caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, has decided to postpone the Asia Trophy 2020 to 2021. Since then, the ACC has been working with its stakeholders and stakeholders to try and ensure the event is held throughout the year.

“However, due to the full FTP, it has been concluded that no annual window will be available for all parties to participate,” the ACC said in a statement.

The Asian Cup started in 1985 and India has been dominating the tournament since its inception. It was decided in 2016 that the Asia Trophy would be played in rotation between ODI and T20.
