AKTU students demand online semester exams amid Omicron threat

Students at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, are concerned about the university’s decision to take the exams offline. Launching an online campaign, several students have asked AKTU to conduct online exams, like physical exams amid the threat of an increase in Omicron cases in India could put their health and lives at risk, say the students.

The university had announced that physical exams would be held between December 28 and January 15, for all semesters except the first and third in which side entrances take place. The side entrance exams are scheduled to take place in February 2022.

Sharing their concerns on #AktuOnlineexam and #PostponeSemesterExam on Twitter, the students asked the university to reconsider its decision and conduct the exam online. The students said AKTU should follow the lead of other universities and run online exams like last time.

Another user suggested that AKTU should conduct online exams as a precautionary measure because if we don’t take the risk of COVID-19 seriously, the situation could get out of control.

After Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) and other state technical universities would be holding exams online, UP students asked if the MP could organize exams online, so why not them?

The students also called on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to step in and order AKTU to overturn the decision on offline exams.

Here are some of the other Tweets:

The application form for the AKTU odd semester exams was posted by the university on December 2. Students taking the exams were invited to complete and submit these exams no later than December 16. Exam forms for AKTU’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses can be completed on the university’s official exam portal, erp.aktu.ac.in.

The AKTU, in its notification of November 30, had requested all affiliated colleges and institutes to upload the attendance status of students so that they can register for the exam process.
