New Delhi: The southwest monsoon reached the Rajasthan border on Friday and it is expected to progress further in the coming days. A spokesman for the Jaipur Meteorological Center said the southwest monsoon entered the state on June 18 via southeast Rajasthan. The northern limit of the monsoon crosses the Udaipur and Jhalawar districts of the state. Conditions are favorable for a further advance of the monsoon over parts of southern Rajasthan over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, since June 1 of this month, the state has received good rains before and outside the monsoon.

Delhi will have to wait for the monsoon showers. Monsoon winds are expected to reach Delhi by June 27. The meteorological department said conditions are favorable for a further advance of the monsoon in the remaining parts of Gujarat, southern Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh within the next 24 hours. The northern monsoon limit (NLM) passes through Junagadh, Deesa, Guna, Kanpur, Meerut, Ambala and Amritsar.

The IMD had said earlier on Thursday: “The effect of the westerly winds on the monsoon is expected to persist until June 23 and as a result the monsoon is likely to miss Rajasthan, the remaining parts of the Punjab, the Haryana and Delhi during this period “. The advance of the monsoon is expected to gradually strengthen between June 26 and 30 and reach most parts of northwest India during this period.

Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather said that over the past three or four days, westerly winds were preventing the monsoon from advancing further in northwest India. He said: “These winds will also continue into next week, so there is a possibility of monsoon rains in Delhi around June 27 at the scheduled time.”
