Users can now save and share their home address with Plus Codes on Google Maps

Google has introduced the first Indian feature on Google Maps that will allow users to access their addresses using Additional Codes.

For the unknown, Plus Codes are free, open source, digital addresses that provide simple and accurate addresses anywhere in the World.

Plus Codes also include areas that do not have official addresses. Interestingly, Plus Codes are not dependent on street and local names, based on width and length.

Commenting on the new feature of Google Maps, Amanda Bishop, Product Manager, Google Maps said, “In addition to community-led efforts, we are also committed to empowering users to directly use Plus Code addresses for their daily needs.

We tested this feature in India last month, and are excited to share that more than 300,000 users in India have already received their home addresses using Plus Codes.

We look forward to expanding to a wide range of locations, and are actively looking for opportunities to partner with e-commerce, logistics, and service delivery companies, to raise awareness for more people around the world. ”

Google introduced Plus Codes back in 2018. The company in the blog post stated that it has been received on a regular basis by NGOs in India and the government.

Plus Codes are displayed as a short sequence of numbers and letters, providing accuracy up to the door. Plus Codes addresses can be used to deliver food, medicine, or parcels.

Users can easily share their location with friends or family, without sharing rating addresses and landmarks, or voice commands that may be difficult.
