UP Election 2022: Asaduddin Owaisi reserved for a ‘Communal’ statement and an ‘indecent’ remark against Prime Minister Modi

UP Election 2022: A case has been registered against Asaduddin Owaisi for promoting enmity on grounds of religion, disregarding the order of a public servant, the Epidemic Act, etc.

UP Election 2022: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has previously targeted BJP leaders, and this time Uttar Pradesh police convicted him for allegedly making “indecent” statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

FIR against All India leader Majlis-e-Itthehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) was registered at the Barabanki town police station on Thursday after his party’s rally, PTI news agency reported.

A case was registered under various sections of the IPC such as promoting enmity on religious grounds, disobeying an officer’s order, epidemic law, etc., has informed Police Commissioner Barabanki, Yamuna Prasad.

He said the Hyderabad MP also violated Covid guidelines on mask and social distancing by calling crowds at the party rally in Katra Chandana on Thursday.

Barabanki SP informed that the head of AIMIM made statements affecting community harmony and pointed to the century-old Ram Sanehi Ghat mosque razed by the administration and its debris being removed, which is contrary to the facts.

“By this statement, (Asaduddin) Owaisi attempted to vitiate community harmony and incite the sentiments of a particular community. He also made indecent and baseless remarks against the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of ‘Uttar Pradesh,’ the SP told the news agency.

Uttar Pradesh is set to go to parliamentary elections next year along with other states such as Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, and Manipur. The contest for Uttar Pradesh is crucial given its strategic importance for political parties to maintain or establish their dominance in the heart of Hindi.

Owaisi, who was on a three-day trip to Uttar Pradesh to examine the party’s plans to contest 100 seats in the upcoming assembly polls. Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi, Owaisi said efforts had been made to transform the country into a “Hindu Rashtra” since coming to power seven years ago.

“Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, efforts have been made to demolish secularism and make the country a Hindu Rashtra,” he said.
