“There was no India when yoga was discovered”: KP Sharma Oli says International Yoga Day originated in Nepal

Kathmandu: As the whole world celebrated the 7th International Yoga Day on Monday, June 21, Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli again sparked controversy by claiming that yoga originated in Nepal and not India.

In his speech during a program held at his Baluwatar residence on the occasion of International Yoga Day, Acting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said Indian experts were hiding facts.

“Back when yoga first came into being, India didn’t exist; it was divided into factions. India that exists now didn’t exist in the past. India at that time was divided into different factions. Divided into factions, India at that time was like a continent or a subcontinent, ”Oli said, as reported by the new ANI agency.

This is not the first time that Oli has made controversial remarks against India. In July of last year, Oli claimed that Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, was in Nepal and that Lord Rama was Nepalese.

At an event held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Kathmandu, Oli said: “Although the real Ayodhya is in Thori, a town west of Birgunj, India claimed that Lord Rama was there born. Due to these continuous assertions, even we believed this deity Sita married Prince Rama of India. However, in reality, Ayodhya is a village west of Birgunj.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21 after the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 overwhelmingly adopted a draft resolution, declaring June 21 International Yoga Day. A record 177 countries supported the resolution.

This day is of great significance and aims to highlight the importance of yoga in the rejuvenation of our body, mind, and soul. The theme for this year’s Yoga Day is Yoga for Wellness, which focuses on the practice of yoga for physical and mental well-being, and how the practice of yoga can promote holistic health. for each individual.
