Zydus Cadila’s Covid-19 vaccine will become the fourth one to get a nod for use against viral infection in India if approved by the Drugs Controller General of India.
Zydus Cadila is expected to complete testing of its Covid-19 vaccine, ZyCoV-D, by the end of next month and children over 12 can be vaccinated against the coronavirus in August, said Dr. NK Arora said. “The trial will be almost completed until the end of July and in August we will be able to vaccinate children aged 12 to 18,” Arora said, according to the ANI news agency.

The company’s Covid-19 vaccine, once approved, will be the second locally developed to receive clearance in the country and the world’s first DNA vaccine. AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. Randeep Guleria told ANI that the Zydus Cadila vaccine is a new platform used and “something we should be proud of”. “A platform for which research is not carried out in the past in our country and which now manufactures this new type of vaccine, the data is still being collected and it is hoped that they can submit the data to the DCGI for regulatory approval, ”said Dr. Guleria.
“So there is hope and that will depend on how quickly the company is able to collect the data and transmit it to the regulator,” he added.
Arora also said the government has targeted the administration of doses of 1 crore per day to meet the goal of vaccinating everyone in the country within six to eight months. He also dispelled rumors related to vaccination as vague and stated that vaccines in India are 95-96% safe.
“It is important that people come forward proactively and take the vaccines, this is absolutely necessary. There are several rumors, misinformation spreading around the country. Likewise, people have a vague fear in their minds. They think there may be side effects or the vaccine may be dangerous, “Dr Arora said as quoted by ANI News Agency.
He said the government was looking at adverse events during vaccination. “Ninety-five to ninety-six percent of people have an only mild fever or local pain and up to five percent of people have been hospitalized with an allergy or some are anxious. and must be hospitalized, but otherwise, these vaccines are absolutely safe. “
