The Top 15 Big Names That Lost The 2022 Assembly Elections: Complete List Here

The results for the 2022 Assembly Elections were announced on Thursday. The Bharatiya Janata Party swept the polls in four states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, while the Aam Aadmi Party saw a landslide victory in Punjab.

The BJP retained Uttar Pradesh with 273 of 403 seats, Uttarakhand with 47 of 70 seats, and Manipur with 32 of 60 seats. In Goa, the party is one seat short of the magic number but has a plan in place to form the government.

Here are some of the prominent faces that bit the dust in the assembly polls:

Big faces that lost in Uttar Pradesh

1. Keshav Prasad Maurya (BJP)

Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, lost the Uttar Pradesh Assembly poll contest to Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Pallavi Patel by 7,337 votes from Sirathu constituency in Kaushambi district on Thursday.

2. Ajay Kumar Lallu (Cong)

UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu lost to BJP’s Asim Kumar from Tamkuhi Raj seat.

3. SP Singh Baghel (BJP)

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav won the Karhal assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh. Union minister of state SP Singh Baghel lost to him.

4. Sugarcane Minister Suresh Kumar Rana

Sugarcane Minister Suresh Kumar Rana lost the 2022 Assembly Elections. He was one of the top 15 big names that lost the election.

5. Azad Samaj Party Chief Chandrashekhar Azad

Chandra Shekhar Azad, the chief of the Bhim Army, lost yesterday’s election from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur (urban) seat. He finished fourth with 7,543 votes.

Big faces that lost in Uttarakhand

1. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami (BJP)

Dhami, the Uttarakhand chief minister, lost to Kapri from Khatima constituency in the recent election.

2. Former CM Harish Rawat (Cong)

Former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat lost the elections from Lalkuan to Mohan Singh Bisht, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Big faces that lost in Punjab

1. CM Charanjit Singh Channi (Cong)

Channi lost both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaurin, two important constituencies for the Congress.

2. Parkash Singh Badal (SAD)

Badal lost to Khudian from his traditional Lambi seat in the Punjab elections.

3. Former CM Amarinder Singh

Amarinder Singh lost the election in his Patiala Urban constituency to Ajit Pal Singh Kohli from AAP.

4. Navjot Singh Sidhu (Cong)

Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Congress party’s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, lost his Amritsar East seat to Jeevanjyot Kaur of the Aam Aadmi Party by a wide margin.

Big faces that lost in Goa

1. Deputy CM Manohar Ajgaonkar (BJP)

Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar was defeated by Leader of Opposition and Congress candidate Digambar Kamat by a wide margin in the Margao Assembly constituency.

2. Deputy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar (BJP)

Chandrakant Kavlekar, the second Deputy Chief Minister in the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet, lost his reelection bid to Congress candidate Altone D’Costa in Quepem. Kavlekar had won from Quepem in 2017 on a Congress ticket.

3. Former chief minister Churchill Alemao (TMC)

The Trinamool Congress father daughter duo Churchill Alemao and Valanka Alemao lost the Goa assembly polls, on Thursday. While former CM Churchill Alemao was defeated by AAP’s Venzy Viegas in Benaulim, Valanka Alemao lost to the BJP’s Ulhas Tuenkar Navelim.

4. Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar (Independent)

The BJP candidate Atanasio Monserrate secured the prestigious Panaji seat by defeating former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s son and independent candidate Utpal Parrikar. Monserrate received 700 votes more than Utpal Parrikar, resulting in his victory.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections took place in seven phases, beginning on February 10 and concluding on March 7. The Uttarakhand and Goa polls were held on February 14, while Manipur’s elections took place on February 28 and March 5.
