The arrest of Two Bengal Ministers, Two Leaders: High Court Bribery

The Calcutta High Court on Friday denied the temporary bail of all four Bengal politicians – including two Bengal Ministers – in jail after being arrested by the CBI earlier this week in connection with the Narada case.
All four will now be arrested, the court said.

The decision was passed shortly after differences of opinion divided the two-member bench – Acting Judge Rajesh Bindal ordered the house arrest but Judge Arijit Banerjee ordered interim bail.

The first order was for a house arrest while the bail application was heard on a larger bench (about three members). The final order makes the same provision but does not give the timeframe for the new hearing.

Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee – also named by the CBI in the case – called for a high bench at 2pm, but said there was no order for this to be done.

The court also rejected the CBI’s application to keep the house arrest order – meaning the four could now be released from prison. The group argued that the four leaders were influential and could intimidate witnesses.
