West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that students who scored 60% in state council exams would be eligible for the “Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme”.

She also said the eligibility criteria have been revised from 75 percent to 60 percent so that more students can benefit from the initiative.

Banerjee on Thursday practically congratulated at least 1,700 successful candidates in secondary, upper secondary and madrasah exams.

All students received laptops, as well as books written by renowned Bengal authors.

The scholarship program aims to help deserving students from economically backward families in the state.

Under the program, the family income limit is set at 250,000 yen per year.
