The recent notification for SSC CGL 2023 has specified that the age limit for the exam is set between 18 and 32 years, with the age being calculated as of 1st August 2023. However, this particular date for age reckoning has caused disappointment among SSC aspirants whose age is close to crossing the age limit threshold.

Traditionally, SSC has followed the practice of considering 1st January of the year as the reference date for age eligibility. This deviation from the usual practice has resulted in many candidates becoming ineligible or losing an attempt, which is especially concerning for those who have planned SSC CGL 2023 as their final attempt to crack the exam.

As per the Office Memorandum 1988 of the Department of Personnel Training (DOPT), the year is divided into two halves – January to June and July to December. The age limit date for the Main examination should fall within the half of the year in which the examination is conducted, as per this memorandum.

However, SSC has previously set the age limit date as 1st January, even when the Mains examination falls in the second half of the year, and this practice was followed even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has commenced the registration process for SSC CGL 2023. The registration started on April 3 and will continue until May 3, 2023. The last date for payment through challan is May 5, 2023. Candidates can apply for the same at ssc.nic.in.
