Rome: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Piazza Gandhi in Rome during his visit to the country to attend the 16th G-20 Summit.
Shortly after arriving at the scene, the Prime Minister was cheered by a group of enthusiastic Indians and greeted with chants in Sanskrit and the slogan “Modi, Modi”.
“In Rome, I had the opportunity to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, whose ideals give courage and inspiration to millions of people around the world,” Modi said in a tweet after paying homage to the Father of the Nation.
“The ideals of the great Bapu reverberate around the world,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted.
According to PMO sources, who told PTI that Prime Minister Modi has made it his duty to pay rich tributes to the Father of the Nation on every trip abroad since taking office in 2014.
Prime Minister Modi offered floral tributes to Bapu in Washington DC in September 2014 and unveiled a statue of Gandhi in Brisbane, Australia in November of the same year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi will be joined by other world leaders in Rome for the G20 summit which was organized to discuss the global economic and health recovery after COVID-19, sustainable development, and climate change.
According to reports, the Prime Minister also had wide-ranging talks with the main leaders of the European Union earlier today, during which the two sides discussed the deepening of India-EU friendship, especially in areas such as trade, culture, and the environment.
After her productive interactions with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other leaders, Prime Minister Modi called the meetings wonderful.
He said he had had in-depth discussions on deepening India-EU friendship, especially in areas such as trade, commerce, culture, and environment.
