“Not Against Any Religion”: The President of the UP Law Commission Alludes to the policy of population control

The UP Law Commission chairman said that the population in the state is nearing an explosive stage and people need to keep in check to get govt facilities and resources.

Lucknow: The chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission spoke on Sunday about the need to control the population of the state and refrain from exploiting government resources. Aditya Nath Mittal spoke to ANI and said the state government does not want to send the message that it is against any particular religion or basic human rights, but that it is essential to control the population in the current situation.

Mittal said: “The population is approaching an explosive stage, causing other problems as well – related to hospitals, grain, homes or employment. We think there should be population control … Population control is different from family planning.

The president of the UP Law Commission further stated: “We do not want to send the message to the UP that we are against any particular religion or anyone’s human rights. We just want to make sure that government resources and facilities are available to those who help and contribute to population control. “

Although Mittal’s statement alludes to a policy of population control in the state, there is no official confirmation of this from the government of Yogi Adityanath.

Meanwhile, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed similar thoughts and said the state government would gradually implement a two-child policy to receive benefits under the framework. specific schemes financed by the State.

The proposed population control policy, however, will not be applicable in all Assam regimes for the time being, as many benefits are offered by the central government, the chief minister said at the press conference.

Weeks earlier, Sarma had been criticized by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for his comment that “many social ills in Assam” could be overcome if the “immigrant Muslim community adopted decent family planning standards” .

“To end their poverty, Muslim women must be educated, the population must be controlled. I invite them to work with us. We are here for all of you, to support women’s education and reduce poverty. But poverty will never be reduced unless you control your population, ”he said.
