Lone Chopper Crash Survivor Group Captain Varun Singh health is critical but stable: Report

New Delhi: The state of health of Group Captain Varun Singh, the sole survivor of the Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter crash that killed 13 people, including the Chief of Staff Defense Officer Gen. Bipin Rawat continues to be critical but stable, officials said.

IAF officials informed ANI news agency about Group Captain Varun Singh Singh, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Bengaluru Air Force Command Hospital.

The seriously injured group captain admitted to Wellington Military Hospital after Wednesday’s helicopter crash was transferred a day later to the Air Force Command Hospital for further treatment.

According to reports, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh previously had a telephone conversation with family members of the group’s captain, recently conferred with the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind for his act of exceptional bravery, during which he inquired about his health and assured them of all the help of the Center.

The defense minister said Thursday that the IAF had ordered a three-service investigation into the helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the IAF thanked everyone, including police officials and residents, for their assistance in rescue operations following the “unfortunate” helicopter crash.

“The IAF thanks the prompt and sustained help provided by the office and staff of @CMOTamilnadu, @collrnlg, police officers, and residents of Katteri village in the rescue and rescue operation following the unfortunate accident in ‘helicopter,’ the IAF tweeted.

General Rawat was buried with full military honors at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi cantonment on Friday. In accordance with the protocol, he received a salvo of 17 cannon shots during his funeral where 800 soldiers were present.

General Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat and Brigadier Lakhwinder Singh Lidder were also among the 13 people killed in the helicopter crash.
