Jharkhand Governor requests that the Centre reconsider implementing CUET in 2022-23.

Jharkhand Officials said on Saturday that Governor Ramesh Bais urged Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan to reconsider the decision to implement a common university entrance test (CUET) beginning with the 2022-23 academic year.

In a letter, Governor drew the union minister’s attention to the problems and difficulties encountered in implementing the CUET.

“Based on the problems, it does not appear possible to follow and implement CUET for under-graduate programmes in state universities beginning with the current session.” So, reconsider your decision,” he advised.

The Governor stated that he received a letter from the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) requesting that CUET be implemented beginning with the academic session 2022-23 for undergraduate admission in various Jharkhand universities.

As a result, all state vice chancellors and the higher education department have been directed to follow the UGC’s above guidelines, according to a Raj Bhawan release.

The governor then received information about the difficulties that various universities in the state are having in implementing CUET for enrollment of students in graduation beginning with the academic session 2022-23, according to the release.

“Universities stated that most students’ socioeconomic backgrounds are poor. Students from tribal and backward communities cannot afford the CUET application fee, which is approximately $500-600. “This may increase the number of dropout cases,” according to the release.

The deadline to apply for the CUET exam is May 22, 2022, but there is still no clarity on the exam syllabus and exam pattern, according to the release.
