New Delhi: Continuing the increase in Omicron cases in the country, the overall count of the variant in India has reached 422. India has reported 6,987 new cases of Covid in the past 24 hours. The country recorded 7,091 healings and 162 deaths on Friday.

The Union Health Ministry said in Sunday’s press release that a total of 422 cases of Omicron have been reported in 17 states / UTs in India so far. The number of people recovered is 130.
Omicron in Karnataka
Seven new cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in Karnataka, bringing the total number of cases to 38, state Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said on Saturday, according to a PTI report.
In a series of tweets, he said: “Seven new cases of the Omicron variant were confirmed in Karnataka on December 25.”
According to him, the people who tested positive were: a 76-year-old man from Bangalore who had traveled from Delhi, a 30-year-old woman from Bangalore, who came from the United Arab Emirates, a 63-year-old man from Bangalore who arrived from Zambia, and a 54-year-old man from Bengaluru, who was a primary contact for a traveler from the UK.
He added that a 21-year-old man from Bengaluru who arrived from the United Kingdom, a 62-year-old man from Bengaluru who came from Delhi, and a 15-year-old boy from Bengaluru who traveled from the United States have also been found infected.
Sudhakar said all primary and secondary contacts have been tracked, located and tested.
Omicron in Bengal
An intern from Kolkata Medical College tested positive for Omicron, bringing the total number of people infected with the new variant of the coronavirus to six, a senior health department official said.
Except for the medical intern, the others have a history of travel abroad.
“So far there are six cases of the Omicron variant in the state. All of them are male,” the official said.
Three of the intern’s contacts have so far been traced.
“Since he is a medical professional, he may have come into contact with patients. Without confirmation, however, we cannot say anything for sure. We are looking into the matter,” he said.
