Google has introduced a new standalone web application for Google Meet. The web application also known as the Progressive Web Application has all the features of the Google Meet app, but this is only for the web.
You will no longer need to type a URL or go to Gmail to start a meeting on Google Meet, simply download the app to your laptop, computer or MacBook and use it.
The announcement by Google comes weeks after Zoom announced its own PWA.
If you are wondering how the Google Meet web service will be different from Google Meet, Google has made it clear that there is no change in performance.
PWA’s are actually websites with app functions. So if you download the Google Meet app on your laptop or computer, you will no longer need to find it through a browser to start the meeting.
It will be available in your downloaded applications section. You can just open the app and start the assembly as we do on Smartphones when we have apps installed on our device.
Regarding its new Progressive Web App, Google said, “We have introduced a new independent Google Meet app.
This Progressive Web Application (PWA) has features similar to Google Meet on the web, but as a standalone application it is easy to find and use, and simplifies your workflow by eliminating the need to switch between tabs. ”
The Google Meet web application will work on any device with a Google Chrome browser type 73 or higher, regardless of the application.
This means that Google Meet can work on Windows, MacOS, Chrome OS, and Linux devices. It can be very helpful for Chromebook users.
The web app can be downloaded and installed from the Chrome browser. It is important to note that the application will not be available until it is installed on the user’s device.
Google will also show the hijackers to try the Google Meet web application in the top right corner of the main Google Meet page.
You can hit the input button provided in the pop-up or close it if you already have a web application.
Google said the app will be released gradually. Users will be available to download it within 15 days.
The web app will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers and users with a personal Google Account.
