Disney + Hotstar is pulling Netflix – and its programs. At a high-profile event on Tuesday, where he presented a new series of movies for Hotstar Specials and Disney + Hotstar Multiplex, Disney-owned broadcasting service announced that it was abandoning its content-based goal.
Going forward, all content on Disney + Hotstar, including real Disney + and Hollywood movies and TV shows from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, HBO, FX, Showtime, 20th Century, and Searchlight Pictures, designed exclusively for Disney + Hotstar Premium will now be available to everyone. That means Disney + Hotstar VIP is no more.
Instead, starting September 1, Disney + Hotstar will allow subscribers to choose from three new programs: “Mobile” at Rs. 499 per year, “Super” by Rs. 899 per year, and “Premium” at Rs. 1,499 per year.
First place increased from VIP’s Rs. 399 but the Premium prices have not changed. And if you were already at Disney + Hotstar Premium, nothing would change much for you, except that you could now stream to four devices at once (from the previous two).
4K still faces Premium only. Disney + Hotstar Super allows you to stream on two devices simultaneously, up to high-definition (HD) video quality.
That leaves Disney + Hotstar’s Mobile, which is exactly the same as Netflix Mobile’s plan. It will limit you to only one mobile device but you will still enjoy HD video quality.
Those at Disney + Hotstar Super and Disney + Hotstar Premium can access this service on all supported platforms:
websites, mobile phones, and living room devices. Most importantly Disney + Hotstar’s has new entry points for international content lovers, Mobile (Rs. 499) and Super (Rs. 899) is heavily in the premiere (Rs. 1,499) – depending on what we ‘are willing to sacrifice.
