Criteria released by Gujarat Board for Mass Promotion of Class 9th, 11th students

The Gujarat government has decided to promote students in classes 9 and 11 without exams. In a recent announcement, Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) shared detailed policies for schools to promote students. Under the new guidelines, schools are allowed to give more than 10 marks as ‘kind marks’ if necessary to motivate students.

While students will be awarded marks based on internal assessment, the lower marking categories, however, are different. For science students, the conditions include periodic examinations, submission of notebooks, and subject related activities. For general and vocational streams, test parameters include timeline, one-syllabus review from the library, and projects.

Earlier, the Gujarat Board postponed Class 10, 12 exams. The then CMO office also announced a mass promotion in classes 1 to 9 and class 11. In addition, new Gujarat Board Examination schedule for classes 10 and 12 will be released after May 15. Authorities had requested time until then to review the epidemic situation of COVID-19.

Among other things, several state boards had announced promotions for students in classes 1 to 9, as well as 11 cancellations of the 10th board exam after CBSE.

The Gujarat Board, however, has not yet announced the cancellation of the Board’s exams. An announcement about the exam dates will take place on May 15. CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra board among others will still announce their plans for promotion to the next class. Considering that no tests are being done they may be based on internal tests, but details are pending.
