Blinkit, the former Grofers, temporarily shuts down its resources to areas where it can deliver in 10 minutes.

Grofers’ giant delivery giant, which made a name for itself at Blinkit last week to continue to emphasize its fast-track commercial image by closing stores and limiting its performance to those areas only where it can deliver products within 10 minutes.

The rebuilding of the name comes months after the company introduced a grocery delivery plan in 10 minutes or less. The Grofers recently acquired a unicorn or $ 1 billion position, after raising more than $ 120 million from food company Zomato Ltd.

“While we understand that a 15 or 20 minute service can be better than no service, our plans and infrastructure are only built with 10 minutes (or less) in mind,” said Albinder Dhindsa, founder and chief executive, in a blog post.

The company estimates that the business decision will affect 75,000 of its 2,00,000 daily customers.

“We are individually committed to prompt service delivery – focusing on the areas in which we operate within 10 minutes and prioritizing everything else,” the company said in a statement.

The company operates in 30 cities, 12 of which provide 10 minutes. A quick look at the Blinkit site shows that their services are not available in Agra, Ahmedabad, Panipat, Rohtak, Allahabad, Durgapur, and Vadodara. These are some of the cities where the old Grofers introduced deliveries in 2019.

Blinkit plans to open a store every four hours and “accelerate even faster. Customers can update their location directly on the Blinkit app to determine if it is currently inactive.

It is currently making its 10-minute delivery in 12 cities to more than 250 stores and plans to take this number to 530 stores next month. It plans to work in a thousand stores by the middle of next year

“While we understand that 15 or 20 minutes of service delivery may be better than no service at all, our systems and infrastructure are built with only 10 minutes in mind,” the company said.

Grofers, the reconstruction of Blinkit took place at a time when most competitors were raising money to compete in the cash guzzling industry. Its main competitors are Swiggy’s Instamart, BigBasket, Dunzo, and upstart Zepto.

Online Food Delivery Forum Swiggy has recently said it will invest $ 700 million in its grocery delivery service Instamart as it looks to double in the non-food delivery sectors.
