Anthony Hopkins received the Best Actor award at the 202 Oscars. The actor was nominated for his role in The Father.
The 93rd Academy Awards concluded Sunday night, April 25, with Anthony Hopkins winning Best Actor for The Father.
The actor was not in the audience to receive the award. However, he shared a video from his home country of Wales and thanked the Academy for the award. He also honored the late actor Chadwick Boseman.
“I am 83 years old, I did not expect to receive this award. I did not receive it. I am not very happy with the Academy. Thank you. I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was also taken from us very early. And again, thank you all very much. I did not expect this, so I feel privileged. great and honorable, thank you, “he said.
Hopkins’ agent released a statement to Bantu that read, “Tony was in Wales, where he grew up, and he was asleep at 4am when I woke him up to tell him the news. He was very happy and grateful.” Hopkins was nominated along with Riz Ahmed of Sound of Metal, Boseman of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Gary Oldman of Mank, and Steven Yeun of Minor.
Many predict that Boseman will receive an award at the Oscars this year. The order of the awards has also been changed, forcing the end of the Best Actor character. However, while the results were announced, disgruntled fans took to Twitter to express their shock.
This victory marks the second Hopkins to receive an Oscar in his career. The actor had won an award for his role in The Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins also made history with his victory, becoming the oldest actor to win an Oscar.
