Amarinder Singh is leaving Congress? He says he is not ready to be ‘treated this way’: Report

New Delhi: Amid the political unrest in the Punjab that has plunged into a storm for Congress in recent days, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh said he would leave Congress, saying he could not continue “when there is no trust”.

He is not ready to be “treated this way,” Amarinder Singh told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

He also denied reports that he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party as speculation was rife after his meeting with Interior Minister Amit Shah and national security adviser Ajit Doval on Thursday, the report said.

Amarinder had previously clarified that he had met Interior Minister Shah and discussed issues relating to farmers.

Amarinder Singh’s decision comes after a months-long feud with Navjot Singh Sidhu, after which he resigned as chief minister of Punjab. After stepping down from the post, Singh opened up about the row with Sidhu and even said he would fight tooth and nail to prevent the cricketer-turned-politician from becoming the face of Punjab CM.

Sources close to Singh said the former chief minister also discussed the internal security situation in Punjab with Shah.

Singh claimed instability in Punjab could give Pakistan a way to create unrest in the border state.

He also accused Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu of being “close to (Pakistani Prime Minister) Imran Khan” and claimed he was “dangerous” for the border state.
