“All is well …”: a blogger after the apologies of the owner of “Baba Ka Dhaba”

The food blogger responsible for making “Baba Ka Dhaba” happen overnight shared a happy image with the elderly couple who had accused him in the past of defrauding money donated by people.

New Delhi: The story of “Baba ka Dhaba”, which has seen many twists and turns and captured people’s attention since it surfaced last year, finally took a positive turn today. The food blogger who was responsible for making “Baba Ka Dhaba” happen overnight shared a happy image with the elderly couple who had accused him in the past of defrauding money donated by people.
“All’s well that ends well,” tweeted Gaurav Wasan – whose video highlighting the elderly couple’s struggle had led to donations and massive attendance at the humble restaurant – alongside the photo.

This comes after the apology from Kanta Prasad – the owner of the Dhaba. In a video shared by another food blogger, Mr. Prasad with folded hands can be heard saying: “Gaurav Wasan was not a thief. We never called him a thief.”

A year ago, hundreds of people lined up outside the South Delhi restaurant after the video, in which the owner of “Baba Ka Dhaba” tearfully spoke of the loss of business due to the pandemic, has gone viral. The owner has also received generous donations from across the country.

The blogger’s humanitarian gesture, however, turned into a massive controversy after Mr. Prasad accused him of financial embezzlement. The social media influencer denied the charges and defended himself with his bank statements.

“The forgiving person is a bigger person than the one who makes a mistake – that’s what my parents taught me,” Mr. Wasan said in his latest tweet in Hindi.

After his new fortune, the 80-year-old started a restaurant in the same locality of Malviya Nagar where he ran his kiosk for 30 years. But he’s back at his food stand now after his new business has failed to take off.
