After petrol, LPG cylinders, and now pre-paid programs are all ready to be more expensive. According to reports, Airtel, Jio and Vodafone are expected to raise prices by at least 10-12 percent by Diwali, which is November.
This is another contribution that registrars need to prepare for, as last year, in November, all telecommunications operators, by surprise, increased the prices of their pre-paid programs.
Postpaid programs were not affected by the increase. The increase in prices last year was particularly acute as telecommunications operators increased prices by about 20 percent to 25 percent.
According to the ET report, the market could survive another inflation because mobile operators have not lost their consumer base even when prices have risen by 25 percent.
That’s because there are currently three independent telecom subscribers and prices have been raised across companies. People have moved to Jio from Vodafone because Jio programs are relatively cheap for both Airtel and Vodafone, but many users stay in the same area because there was another viable option to consider. Interestingly, prices in India are among the lowest in the world.
Earlier, Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal had indicated that Airtel would increase the price of its tax plans in India. He said, “My point is that we should start seeing tax increases this year.
I believe prices at that level are still very low. The first port of 200, requires at least one round of tax increases, “Vittal said of tax increases.

Airtel was the first among mobile operators to increase the price of pre-paid programs by 18 to 25 percent back in November 2021. Vodafone Idea soon followed suit and revised its prices to the same level, while Reliance Jio increased prices until 2021. 20 percent last year. Significantly, Reliance Jio has not yet revealed whether it has any plans to increase prices by 2022 in the event of a tax increase.
