President Kovind and Prime Minister Modi and others congratulate Nishad Kumar on a silver medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated Nishad Kumar on Sunday for winning the silver medal in the men’s T47 high jump at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

You have proven your excellence on the world stage thus bringing glory to India. My sincere congratulations on your outstanding performance and success” read a statement on Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called out Nishad and congratulated him on his victory.

Nishad for his part thanked Prime Minister Modi and also appreciated the continued encouragement he gives to para-athletes, ANI reported.

Prime Minister Modi praised Nishad earlier in a tweet and called him a “remarkable athlete with exceptional skill and tenacity.”

“More joyous news is coming from Tokyo! Absolutely thrilled that Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in the T47 men’s high jump. He is a remarkable athlete with exceptional skill and tenacity. Congratulations to him. #Paralympics, ”he tweeted.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also congratulated Nishad on his win and for creating a new Asian Record with the effort.

Union Human Resources and Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar also praised the Indian high jumper.

“Indian high jumper Nishad Kumar won the silver medal at the #TokyoParalympics. Congratulations to Nishad Ji. The country is proud of you, ”he wrote on the Hindi microblogging platform.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on his part said Nishad’s silver medal win is a moment of pride for the nation.

“#NishadKumar Ji has made the country proud by winning a silver medal in Tokyo @paralympics. My heartiest congratulations to you on this wonderful victory. Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to the youth of the country,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as well congratulated Nishad for the “stellar performance”.

“Another #Silver for India on National Sports Day. Congratulations to Nishad Kumar for the stellar performance. You’ve done our country proud. #TokyoParalympics,” he tweeted.
